Duck Voyage

Today's the day!!
After a chaotic 3 years, including a dry spring last year, 31 little ducks are going on their voyage. Now mind you, these are not your typical yellow ducks. Some are in sports shape, some are pirates, and I am not sure what some are. Either way, they do have a duck face, they float, and are marked.
Rich, my husband, and I are dropping some in the Cedar and some in the Shell Rock rivers. Each duck is numbered on their wing. Let's hope those that find a duck will post a comment where a friend was found and release it on its way. We are hoping one of these little guys makes it to the Gulf. Happy swimming little guys!

Main Voyage Postponed
I was hoping that our little duck friends would already be swimming down the Shell Rock River and towards the Cedar River by now, but things have been a little busy with a Google class and working on our fruit orchard. Hopefully soon we will start the maiden voyage and have some persons blog about our duck friends' adventure.
In the meantime, let me tell you about the project and how it got started. We live on an acreage about 10 miles from Greene, Iowa. Our sons attend North Butler High School which is in Greene, Iowa, so we refer to it as our hometown. On a drive through the town when the Shell Rock River was high from flooding, my husband and I started talking about the driftwood and where it would eventually go providing it wouldn't get stuck on the side. We both thought eventually it would float to the Gulf of Mexico.
I thought it would make a great blog to set some floating ducks on the adventure with the blog's address on the duckie. When a person found the duckie and picked it up, they would read the message, "Please visit... and read the blog entry on such-and-such date" When the person comes to this blog, they are asked to enter where they found the rubber duckie and if they want to add how and information about themself, that would be OK and then they are asked to make sure and release our duckie friend in the spot they found it if at all possible, otherwise, to release it as close as possible to send it on its way.
I am in high hopes that through the months, maybe years, we will meet people all along the Shell Rock, Cedar, and Mississippi Rivers and maybe someone that finds a duckie in the Gulf of Mexico and discover something along the way. So, please keep visiting to see where we are at with our duck project!
